Job Description

The Patient Safety Advisor promotes a culture of safety and identifies opportunities and initiatives to enhance patient safety. The position oversees the development of a comprehensive patient safety improvement program inclusive of the analysis and trending of data. The position provides proactive and reactive patient safety initiatives including participation in root cause analysis and failure mode effect analysis. The Patient Safety Advisor develops a process and plan for change that can be constantly monitored and evaluated for its effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the Patient Safety Committee by, including but not limited to, developing agendas, managing attendance and minutes, and tracking action items
  • Plans, executes, and analyzes culture of patient safety survey, disseminates results, and facilitates action planning process.
  • Reviews evidence-based practice to ensure that clinical services are provided in accordance with safety standards established by federal and state regulatory agencies.
  • Reviews new and revise policies, procedures and ordersets for adoption of evidence-based practice.
  • Collaborates with quality professionals and clinical leaders throughout the organization on patient safety initiatives.
  • Reviews policies, procedures, and ordersets for adherence to evidence-based practice.
  • Serves as subject matter expert to medical staff and hospital departments relative to safety science.
  • Oversees tiered safety huddle process throughout the organization; provides department safety huddle tools and example to new leaders; audits department huddles for standardization; and works with risk management to prepare agenda for hospital safety huddle.
  • Remains fully informed of national and state patient safety mandates (e.g. CMS, AHCA, DNV).
  • Collects and analyzes diverse data (including but not limited to observations, event reports, quality/safety metrics) to identify trends in patient safety risks.
  • Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization.
  • May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.


Qualifications

  • 5 years Relevant experience in hospital patient safety, risk management, or quality improvement Required
  • Bachelor's degree Nursing Required
  • Master's degree Healthcare related field Preferred
  • Registered Nurse State of Florida Upon Hire Required
