Job Description

The Charge Nurse provides care and education for the patient based on their illness, symptoms, and courses of treatment. Manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. This is position is an experienced RN with in-depth knowledge and understanding of providing and overseeing nursing care to critical patients in the critical care units. This position fulfills the roles of clinician, mentor, and educator.

Responsibilities

Assess and diagnose patient and family needs to provide quality care. Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic plan of care for each patient, in collaboration with each patient/significant other in order to address all identified needs. Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient. Evaluates the identified problems, care provided, and patient's responses are reassessed to meet patient and family needs and assure overall quality of care delivered. Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team, to ensure quality care. Assumes responsibility for daily personnel assignment/monitoring patient care and overall unit activities, in accordance with established standards. Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the critical care unit/critical care division as defined in the scope of service, to assure that the unique nature of the client is addressed. This includes, but is not limited to the age of the client served. Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursues professional growth and development. • Required to meet and maintain the necessary educational and certification requirements defined by the stroke program Performs selected leadership duties as delegated by the nurse managerSupports Professional Governance through engagement and support of the Unit Based Council and other nursing councils. Assumes responsibility for overall function of unit in the absence of the clinical manager. Collaborates with manager on human resources functions to provide feedback ie. performance reviews.Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization. May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.

Qualifications

Minimum Education
  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing Preferred or
  • Associates Degree Nursing Required or
  • Technical Diploma/Certificate Nursing Required

Minimum Work Experience
  • 1-3 years Clinical Nursing Experience Required

Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Nurse Licensed State of Florida or eligible compact state license Upon Hire Required and
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required and
  • ACLS Provider (ACLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required and
  • National Institutes Of Health Stroke Scale (NIH) NIH_STROKE Upon Hire Required
  • Registered Nurse Licensed State of Florida or eligible compact state license Upon Hire Required and
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Demonstrated proficiency in critical care nursing, knowledge, skills and competency.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and multi-tasking skills with ability to anticipate task and prioritize assignments.
  • Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with evidence of this includes, but is not limited to, effective communication skills, ability to deal well with people, ability to problem solve, ability to confront/resolve issues, ability to motivate others, ability to plan, organize, and direct the activities of others (High proficiency)
