Job Description

The Cardiac Technician maintains close observation of all monitors in the central monitoring room, notifying personnel when rhythm disturbances are observed on patients. This position performs all responsibilities required as defined in the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed.

Responsibilities

Maintains close observation of EKG tracing continuously during assigned watch Notifies clinical personnel of all rhythm disturbances, continuously artifact inoperative alarms and other monitoring problems. Utilizes telemetry emergency call system for life-threatening arrhythmias. Consults with RN when treatment of the arrhythmia is indicated. Refers all major systems problems to Clinical Manager, Charge Nurse or Assistant Director and Bio-medical Electronics Department. Communicates to oncoming shift a status report on all telemetry patients and monitoring equipment. Responds to all monitor alarms and notifies appropriate personnel as needed. Interprets alarms and validates computer interpretation within five (5) minutes Reserves and issues telemetry units when ordered. Maintains accurate telemetry assignments and current stop alerts according to unit policy. Assures quality of ECG input signal, uses appropriate techniques to correct artifact or interference. Differentiates arrhythmias which require immediate and non-immediate action and responds accordingly. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of data collected.Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization. May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.

Qualifications

Minimum Education
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Must possess good interpersonal and organizational skills.
